Shannon sits this one out and Fadra chats with her sister, Tonya, who just returned from her 11th Dragon Con in Atlanta.
According to their own website, Dragon Con is the largest multi-media, pop culture convention focusing on science fiction & fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film in the universe – and the best place to celebrate all of these things with fellow fans on Labor Day Weekend.
Basically, it’s a nerdfest. The question is what kind of nerdfest.
Dragon Con is for people who like movies and tv and sci fi and books and G.I. Joe and anime and music and superheroes and comics and, and, and…
You get the idea. If you’re a superfan of something, Dragon Con is the place to find like-minded people.
For example, my sister and her friend decided to cosplay Britta and Annie from the paintball episode of the NBC show, Community. It was one episode of one show but if you’re a superfan, you’d totally get it.
In this episode, we talk about her experience at the largest ever Dragon Con including the panels and programming (her favorites included the puppeteers behind BB-8, the events (like the massive parade every year), and celebrities!
SPOILER: She not only saw panels of celebrities but she ran into a few just hanging out with the “regular” people, like Ross Marquand from The Walking Dead.
And finally, we talk about the cosplay. Her costumes were obscure but the attention to detail was extreme.
She’s a bitcoin from the bitcoin rollercoaster meme! (Don’t worry, I didn’t get it either, so here you go)
Does she plan to go back? Duh. At $85 for a full convention pass, it’s a veritable bargain. But if you want to see here there, better make your hotel reservations now. 80,000 rooms go quickly!
The Best of Dragon Con Cosplay
And just for fun…
(if you have to ask who they are, you probably won’t get it)
